Theoretical Foundations and a Transdisciplinary Concept of Hope

Abstract The current chapter has the primary purpose of laying theoretical grounds on which cross-cultural empirical research program Hope Barometer between 2017 and 2021 was developed executed. two main goals this correspond to inter- transdisciplinary methodology applied in our work. first goal is give a brief interdisciplinary overview psychological, philosophical, theological theories presenting different perspectives from existential phenomenon hope been studied. Following previous research, will be examined along six general dimensions, highlight nature as cognition, affect, behavior, social phenomenon, virtue, religious perspective. Based similarities complementary views these conceptualizations hope, basic concept or model presented. proposed should do justice essence taking into account diversity situations people might being sensitive cultural backgrounds. Our conceptualization contains three fundamental elements, are (1) wish desire for valuable good, (2) belief that realization possible but uncertain even unlikely, (3) trust availability future internal external resources can facilitate fulfillment hoped-for good face obstacles setbacks.
